Orbi Satellite Not Connecting to Router: Let’s Fix!
Place the Satellite Near Router
Before trying anything else, check the distance separating the Orbi router and satellite. If it is way too much then how will the satellite connect to the router? Both devices should be placed close enough such that they communicate well. Bring the Orbi satellite near the router now and let the devices connect. Only if they have smooth communication, they will be able to connect. Place them nearby so that they get connected. However, once the devices are connected, you can move the satellite. But even then you should place it within the range of the Orbi router.
Reboot the Devices
If the Orbi satellite is still not connected to the Orbi router then you should reboot the devices now. Power off the devices i.e. Orbi router and satellite and remove their power sockets. After waiting for some time, plug the devices back and turn them on. Now that the devices are rebooted, the technical glitches are removed. The satellite should now make a successful connection with the router.
Provide Sufficient Power
See that the Netgear Orbi router and the satellite both are fully booted up and are receiving a consistent power supply. A shaky power supply can be a reason why the devices can not connect. You can verify the power supply by examining the power sockets and the power plugs. If you see any of the sockets are damaged, then get it repaired or use an alternative socket to plug the Orbi device.
In case the cable is loose then replug it properly again. Using a UPS is suggested if you doubt there are power fluctuations.
Verify Internet Connection
The internet connection should be stable so that the Netgear Orbi satellite gets connected to the Obi router. You can check this by first checking the connection between the router and modem. If this is perfect then get in touch with your ISP to get any issue resolved from his end.
Sync Devices Manually
There are chances that the Netgear devices cannot connect automatically due to some reason. In such a scenario you should try syncing them manually using the Sync button located on them. Power on the devices first. Once they are booted up completely, proceed further.
After that press the Sync button on the satellite. Within two minutes, press the Sync button on your router. Your Orbi devices will connected now.
Update the Orbi Devices
Having an older version on the Orbi router or satellite can also be a reason why the Orbi satellite is not getting connected to the router. We recommend you update the firmware on the Orbi deivces now. Access the Netgear Orbi router login page and use the admin details to log in. Check for firmware updates here. If an update is ready, then get it installed on your Orbi right now.
Reset your Orbi
Are you unable to get the Netgear Orbi satellite connected to the router? If you still fail then reset the Orbi devices now. Resetting wipes out the current settings from the devices. The factory settings are then restored on the devices.
Reset your Orbi devices now. Press the Reset hole on the router and let it reset. Reconfigure it once again just like the way you did when you bought it. Now try connecting it to the satellite. If it still does not work then reset the satellite also.
