The government of India has formed the National Accrediting Board for hospitals and healthcare to improve the quality of healthcare services in our country for the class population through various tools, support, and methodologies.

It is a self-governing entity founded in 2005 and supervised by the QCI (Quality Council of India). It is in charge of developing policies, drafting the constitution, and overseeing the QCI standards. It upholds the quality assurance, quality control, and quality improvement standards.

NABH's major goal is to increase the efficiency and competence of organizations that supplement the healthcare system, as well as to improve the predictability of healthcare results.

Procedure for Obtaining NABH Accreditation for Healthcare Providers

Healthcare providers must follow a step-by-step process to apply for NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers) accreditation. The specifics are as follows:

  • Submission of an Application to NABH: The healthcare practitioner must complete the prescribed application form, which contains the following:
    • Pay the application fee mentioned on the form.
    • Provide a self-declaration of compliance with NABH's Terms & Conditions.
    • Fill out the NABH Self-Assessment form.
    • Create a Hospital Manual/Quality requirements that align with NABH requirements.
    • Upload important documents, such as hospital policies and procedures, necessary permissions (Fire NOC, Lift NOC, MCA-related NOC, etc.), proposed directors' ID and address proof, financial records, and other applicable approvals.
  • NABH Team Application Review: After receiving the application, NABH will review it and send an acknowledgement letter to the healthcare provider. In addition, the letter will include a unique reference number for future correspondence.
  • Pre-Assessment: NABH will send a Principal Inspector/Valuation Team to the healthcare provider to conduct a pre-assessment. This stage's goals include the following:
    • Determining the hospital's readiness for final evaluation.
    • Examining the extent of authorization and establishing the number of assessors and duration of accreditation required.
    • Evaluating the documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and explanation of evaluation processes at the hospital.
  • Surveillance and Reassessment: During the three-year certification period, NABH performs periodic surveillance visits to ensure continuous compliance with accreditation standards. Healthcare providers must seek for accreditation renewal at least six months before the current validity term ends.

By following these steps, healthcare providers can begin and finish the process of applying for NABH certification, demonstrating their dedication to providing high-quality healthcare services.

Advantages of NABH Accreditation

  • It establishes procedures and systemizes processes for hospitals and healthcare facilities.
  • NABH-recognised hospitals and healthcare facilities are gaining popularity.
  • Improves the healthcare centre’s quality and standards
  • Ensure the safety of its staff and the happiness of its patients.
  • Maintain the recognized/applicant institution's safety parameters.
  • Contributes to incremental revenue generation (since the registered entity will see an increase in patient intake as a result of recognition)
  • It also guarantees patient happiness and respect.
