Refrigerated trucking involves the shipment of goods that require refrigeration. Transport delivery companies usually provide this service for perishable goods. The items may often come from a warm area, so they must be put in a freezer to ensure they don’t lose their freshness. With warm weather conditions presenting a logistical challenge for many businesses, transport delivery services solved the problem by offering refrigerated trucking services.

What is Refrigerated Trucking?

Refrigerated trucking transports goods in a freezer or refrigerator in the truck. It keeps the items from spoiling or going bad, so no inventory is damaged or spoiled. With refrigerated freight, companies won’t have to worry about the state of their shipment. They have the assurance of knowing those goods will arrive at their destination in excellent condition.

Why Use Refrigerated Transportation?

Companies typically handle transport refrigeration jobs for perishables. That includes meat, dairy products, frozen foods, baked foods, cosmetic products, flowers and floral arrangements, medicines, chemicals, perfumes, colognes, and other essences. Refrigerated transport services are also used for furniture that needs a temperature-controlled environment.

What are the Benefits of the Service?

If you’re on the fence about using the services of a transport company, here are excellent reasons why you should go ahead:

  • Fulfill high demand. There are many businesses that rely on refrigerated transport companies to get their supplies, orders, and inventories from point A to B.
  • Used for numerous products. Companies that offer refrigerated transport services can handle a wider variety of items.
  • Protection. Refrigerated transport protects the items from spoilage.
  • Compliance. Refrigerated transport complies with industry regulations, ensuring that the company performs safe processes.

How Do They Handle Perishables?

There are three conditions that refrigerated freight companies offer when they transport perishables.

  • Frozen food and products: These items are shipped in temperatures as low as -85 Fahrenheit and often as high as 32ºF. Some items may also require transport in a specialized truck.
  • Perishable food and items. Most of these products can be kept in cold or cool temperatures. They are often set at 33 to 39 Fahrenheit.
  • Food items that need warmer conditions. Some food items must be put inside an insulated container to keep them warm and dry. That protects them from extreme weather conditions outside.

How are Perishables Packed?

One way that transport delivery services handle perishables is by using excellent packaging solutions. If you’re curious about those materials, they are:

  • Wood. Wood is an ideal container for ice packs or freezer packs. The container keeps the items safe.
  • Cardboard. Items that have been transported in cool temperatures are often transported in a cardboard box. These are often used for food items that require cool temperatures and not freezing conditions.
  • Styrofoam. Styrofoam cut sheets or boxes are staples for companies that ship perishables. It can be used as an insulator. Packaged items in a styrofoam box won’t need insulated liners or insulated pads.
  • Plastic. This may not be the most eco-friendly option, but plastic is an easy and convenient way to transport items that need temperature-controlled environments.
