Otani's '42' uniform is up for auction Expected bidding price exceeds 100 million won

The uniform worn by superstar Shohei Ohtani (30), who plays for the Major League Baseball (MLB) LA Dodgers, on 'Jackie Robinson Day' last year, was put up for auction.

TMZ Sports, an American sports and entertainment media outlet, reported on the 11th (Korean time) that Ohtani's uniform was up for auction and is expected to be sold for around $100,000 (about 130 million won).

The MLB Secretariat designated April 16th every year as Jackie Robinson Day to honor Jackie Robinson, MLB's first black player. On this day, all players play wearing uniforms with the number '42', which was permanently retired by their former club.

Ohtani, who debuted in MLB in 2018, wore uniform number 17 for the Los Angeles Angels, where he played until 2023, and has maintained the same uniform number even after transferring to the Dodgers last winter. His number 42 jersey is bound to be rare.

TMZ said, “The current highest bid is $39,000, but there are still three days left until the auction closes. “The bid will rise as quickly as Ohtani’s number of home runs,” he predicted.

This bidding will be conducted by SCP Auction, a sports auction house in California, USA.

Currently, SCP Auction is also listing for sale the 200th home run ball that Ohtani hit against the Colorado Rockies on June 24 last year. The current highest bid for this ball is $18,997. 고스톱
