Kailasgadchi Swari Mandir is a temple of Lord Shiva situated in the heart of the city. The Temple is built with a mixed approach of traditional and modern art. It is the most attractive place in Kolhapur. Many Devotees of Lord Shiva tend to visit the temple regularly. It has got a huge built up. The structure is constructed in the year 1972. The temple was built by using the black stone from Jotiba Temple situated at Vadi Ratnagiri near Kolhapur.

Significance of Kailas Gadchi Swari-

 

Kailas Gad is the Mountain Kailsas from the Himalayan range is where the lord shiva appeared from. The lord shiva is called a Swara who is a respected or honorable person. Therefore the place is called Kailash Gad Chi Sware. Many geologists take pride in studying the structure as it is very huge and attractive. The temple has an open area in front where you will see brass Nandi facing the temple. Nandi is the carrier of Lord Shiva thus, you will find the seated Nandi in every temple of Lord shiva. There is also one most interesting thing in front of the temple is Lampstands. This brass lampstand is around 22 feet in height whereas it weighs about a half-ton. These two Lampstands look so dazzling when enlightened with the lights.

There is a beautiful Shivalinga placed inside the Gabhara which is the inner room of god. It is worshipped daily with flowers and garlands. Lord Shiva loves white flowers so mostly white flowers are used to decorate the linga. The linga is also decorated with precious gems. The place is very much nearby to the Mahalaxmi temple hence the tourists are visiting this interesting and attractive place throughout the year.

You can visit the temple and enjoy gazing at its structure, paintings of famous artist G. Kamble and worshipping Lord shiva. The temple is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.

You can reach there by car or any other vehicle. It is close to some tourist attractions like Khasbaug Maidan, Shahu and Shivaji Stadium, etc.
