English – Why is it so hard to learn?

Is learning English a torment for you? Do you wonder why it is so difficult for you? We advise you how to make it easier!

Whether something is easy or difficult is usually a very subjective judgement. It is no different with learning English. For some it will be a piece of cake and they don't even have to try; for others, it is a true torture that keeps them awake at night. Often it is a matter of individual predispositions, the ability to easily remember or associate facts, some of them only have the ability of languages. But what about those who do not have such abilities? Why is the English language difficult for you?

Little motivation

Although it sounds like an overused catchphrase that means little, believe me, it means a lot. Motivation in learning is often a key element. If we don't have it (and the learning itself is quite difficult), it will be much more difficult to learn even the basics. So if we learn English "because we have to," it can quickly turn out to be too weak a motivation. It is worth considering why it is really worth mastering this language, and there are many reasons! Today, where English is becoming an international language, there are literally a handful of people who won't find it useful. After all, English is a great opportunity, both to go on vacation and to develop your professional life. Currently, many companies focus on the international environment and employ specialists from all over the world. It would be nice to get along with them, right? What about access to knowledge and entertainment? English also reigns here, which is the most used in books, specialized publications, research, movies, series and, of course, games.

In fact, almost everyone will find their own individual reason for learning English. If it's important enough to us, it will motivate us, which will ultimately translate into results

Strength for intentions

The second point that makes learning English a real chore is, of course, setting the bar too high. Most of us strive to be fluent in this language. And very good! But all in due time. If we're just beginning our adventure with English, let's start with the basics and move on only after we've mastered it. Expectations and goals that are too high are a guarantee of frustration and the aforementioned anguish.

Let's set ourselves tasks that are possible to carry out. It's not too easy, but it can be done. If we have a hard time remembering words, start with 5-10 words a day (Don't forget to learn in context!). If the task turns out to be too simple, the number can be increased, remembering not to go the other way. By trial and error, we will find the right pace of work. It is important to have a realistic goal that, after hard work, gives us satisfaction and not frustration.

A way to learn

The way we learn will have an impact on our performance and our perception of that learning. Here again the question of individual preferences arises. Do we learn better in a group or 1 on 1? Do we forge from memory or play with associations? Do we do one rep after 2 days or three reps after each week? Apart from the fact that consistency is important in learning, there is no golden recipe for easier English. Each of us has to come up with his own methods that, in addition to being effective, will bring joy and fun. After all, it's not about tormenting ourselves with exhausting science that we don't like. The key is to find solutions to make your English lessons enjoyable and rewarding, and to keep your progress motivating for further development.

Summary

You may find that language learning is not for you. Just like it happens with mathematics, physics or history. Each of us has strengths, but also those that make it difficult for us. However, if we want to master the English language, it is worth paying attention to these 3 basic questions: finding a strong motivation, setting the right goals and finding the best way of learning for you. This may not make English our great passion, but it will certainly make learning English much easier. Give him an oportunity!
