Early Orthodontic Care Avoids Costly Future Treatments

Early Orthodontic Care Avoids Costly Future Treatments
3 min read

Would you skip your child’s regular check-up with the pediatrician? No, right? And so, you shouldn’t miss an early trip to an orthodontist as well. A simple visit to your orthodontist by age 7 will help your child’s oral health in check. Moreover, it will also help you avoid more invasive and costly treatments down the road.

How would that be possible? Let us check here:

Palatel Expander: You may not know but your child may be a good candidate for palatal expansion, which can make the upper jaw wider and help to reduce crowding in abnormally narrow arches. It is tool used when a patient is still growing. Expansion also occurs when the growth palate or suture in the middle of the palate is stretched and the two halves are pushed apart. As the two halves are spread, a bone is added.

When the patient is still young, palatal expansions may reduce the need for extractions or prevent impacted teeth. When such cases are not corrected in a young age, the patients will require surgery for correction in adulthood and it may lead to abnormal wear or bite problems.

Early Interceptive Treatment: Sometimes a short time in braces can correct problems early on to prevent larger problems in the later stage of life. One example of such interceptive treatment is correcting an anterior crossbite.

Tooth Removal: At times, removing the baby or impacted teeth can also help to make way for the permanent teeth. Due to this, the permanent teeth can emerge better and also encourage them to close in closer to their ideal position even without an orthodontic appliance. Talk to your orthodontist and he will suggest the best time for extractions so that you can take the advantage of your child’s growth and development.

Not all visits will start an orthodontic treatment

Taking your child to a Parkland orthodontist doesn’t mean that you have to start a treatment the same day. It may be possible that your child doesn’t require any treatment at all. All you need to do is to get the checked before it is too late.

Your visit to an orthodontist will result in the following things:

  • There may be no need for treatment recognized at that time.
  • Treatment may be necessary in the future, so the child will be followed periodically when the face and the jaws continue to develop.
  • In case a problem already exists, it would benefit by early treatment, and you will be in the right spot to get it started.

Always trust a reliable Parkland orthodontist and get your child checked.
