Civil Services Exam, 2024 notification.UPSC CSE 2024 – Union Public Service Commission will release the application form in the month of February 2024 for conducting the qualifying exam to recruit IAS, IPS, IFS, and IRS. UPSC organizes this exam in two phases i.e., preliminary and Main exam. The last stage is the Interview again it is a very important and final step to join the service.

The preliminary exam is held in the month of May and the Main exam is held in mid-September. UPSC releases the final schedule earlier.at upsc.gov.in UPSC IAS 2024 application form release date is February 2024.

The candidate first appears for Prelims Test, after clearing the prelims exam the next step to appear for Mains Exam  and last stage comes when you clear the main, this is the final stage i.e.,  interview or personality test.

UPSC CSE 2024 Overview  

After Qualifying preliminary Exam there is a DAF form which a candidate has to fill for appearing in the Mains exam. We have given the details below the two process before appearing in the final stage i.e., Interview

DAF form-I

The candidates who are declared qualified preliminary exam for admission to the Civil Services (Main) Examination will have to apply online again and submit on-line Detailed Application Form-I [DAF-I] along with scanned documents/certificates in support of date of birth, category {viz. SC/ST/ OBC (without OBC Annexure) /EWS [Economically Weaker Sections /PwBD / Ex-Serviceman} and educational qualification with required Examination Fee.

DAF form-II

The candidates who are qualified for Civil Services (Main) Examination will be required to mandatorily indicate order of preferences only for those services participating in the Civil Services Examination for the year, for which he is interested in the on-line Detailed Application Form-II [DAF-II], before the commencement of Personality Tests (Interview)

IAS/PCS Preference

The candidates who wish to indicate IAS/IPS as their Service preference are advised to indicate all the Zones and Cadres in the order of preference in their on-line DAF-II as per the extant Cadre Allocation Policy applicable for the Civil Services Examination,

Eligibility

1. a citizen of India,
2. or  a subject of Nepal,
3. or a subject of Bhutan,
4. or  a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India,
5. or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Age

A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years

Age Relaxation

• Up to a maximum of five years if a candidate belongs to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe;
• Up to a maximum of three years in the case of candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes who are eligible to avail of reservation applicable to such candidates;
• Up to a maximum of three years in the case of Defence Services Personnel, disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof;

You should be graduate for applying for UPSC CSE 2024, those who are appearing in the year 2024 can also apply.

The detailed UPSC Prelims syllabus for 2024 exam is given below:

General Studies Paper-1 Syllabus:

• Current events of national and international importance.
• History of India and Indian National Movement.
• Indian and World Geography-Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
• Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
• Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
• General issues on Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity and Climate Change- that do not require subject specialization.
• General Science.

General Studies Paper-2 (CSAT) Syllabus:

• Comprehension.
• Interpersonal skills including communication skills;
• Logical reasoning and analytical ability.
• Decision-making and problem-solving.
• General mental ability.
• Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level)
• Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency, etc. – Class X level).
• English language comprehension skills – Class X level.

• The UPSC Civil Services selection procedure 2024 has three stages, they are as follows –

  Preliminary Exam– Civil Services preliminary examination is held for all candidates who have successfully registered for the UPSC IAS 2024 exam. The IAS prelims exam is conducted to screen candidates for the IAS mains exam. The marks obtained in the preliminary stage are not considered while preparing the final IAS merit list.

  Mains Exam – The Civil Services mains exam is conducted for shortlisted candidates who have cleared the UPSC IAS prelims cutoff marks. Candidates 12 to 13 times the number of vacancies are selected for the IAS 2023 mains exam. There a total of 9 descriptive papers in the mains exam.

• The papers on Indian Languages and English (Paper A and B) of Civil Services mains examination is qualifying in nature. The marks of these papers are also not counted for preparing the merit list. Marks obtained by candidates in all the other IAS mains papers are taken into consideration for making the final UPSC IAS merit list 2024.

  Personality Test –In this stage, candidates twice the number of vacancies are called for the personal interview based on their performance in the mains exam. Marks obtained by candidates in the Main exam and Personality Test are together considered for preparation of All India Merit List for the IAS exam. Allocation of services will be done as per the candidate’s rank in the merit list and preferences of services and posts.

Cut Off

Cut off marks on the basis of GS Paper-I only. GS Paper-II was of qualifying nature with 33% marks as per Rule-15 of Civil Services Examination, 2021.

Subject to 10% marks in each of the seven competitive papers i.e. Essay, GS-I, GS-II, GS-III, GS-IV, Optional-I and Optional-II.

Wherever two or more candidates have secured equal aggregate marks in Civil Services Examination, 2024, the tie(s) have been resolved in accordance with the principles approved by the Commission, viz.

i)Candidate securing more marks in the Compulsory Papers# and the Personality Test put together is to be ranked higher; and

(ii) In case where the marks mentioned at (i) above are equal, the candidate senior in age is to be ranked higher.
