Xabi Alonso (43) has confirmed his departure.

"Xabi Alonso himself told the club at the official press conference before the league match against TSG Hoffenheim that he will stay at the club," Bayer 04 Leverkusen officially announced on Monday.

Alonso, who retired from Munich in 2017, began his managerial career with Real Sociedad B. He took over at Leverkusen in 2022. After finishing sixth in the league last season, Alonso led Leverkusen to the only unbeaten team in Europe's top five leagues in the 20223-2024 season.

This has attracted interest from teams in immediate need of a manager.

"Germany's Sky Sports reported that Alonso would prefer a move to Munich over Liverpool. However, the Bavarians recognize that prying Alonso away from Leverkusen will not be an easy task."

However, Alonso wants to lead Leverkusen next season. 안전놀이터 추천 "After careful consideration and good discussions with Werner Benning, Fernando Caro and Simon Rolfes during the international break, I can say here and now that I will remain coach of Leverkusen," Alonso said in his own words, according to Leverkusen.

"When the decision was made, I wanted to make it known: the management, the team, the staff, everyone has shown me respect and I wanted to reciprocate," he said.

"I would like to thank the management, the players and, above all, the fans for their unconditional support," Alonso added, "My work here is not over and there is still a lot of work to do. Now all the cards are on the table and we can start the next intensive and successful week," he concluded, emphasizing his focus on Leverkusen.

Meanwhile, Leverkusen will host Hoffenheim at 11:30 p.m. on the 30th. It will be interesting to see if Leverkusen can continue their unbeaten streak.
