Antiretroviral therapy (ART) has completely changed how HIV-1 infection is treated, extending the lives of those who are infected while also enhancing their quality of life. The commonly used ART medications are:

The mechanism of action of these medications is based on interrupting the HIV life cycle at various stages, thereby preventing the virus from replicating within the host. By blocking key enzymes and processes essential for viral replication, ART reduces the viral load in the body to very low levels, a state known as viral suppression. Achieving and maintaining viral suppression is the primary goal of ART, as it allows the immune system to recover and strengthen, significantly reducing the risk of HIV-related complications and transmission.

Certain medications like Tavin L tablets consist of the active substance called Lamivudine, Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate, which belongs to the class of antiretroviral or HIV medicine. It is a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI). It works by inhibiting the enzymes (HIV reverse transcriptase) important for virus replication. 

The introduction of combinational therapy has slowly changed treatment regimens and is becoming increasingly popular. It combines the use of various antiviral medications that act on different phases of the HIV cycle. This causes improved efficacy and delays the progression of HIV infections. 

The advancement of newer antiretroviral medications, genetic profiling, and pharmacogenomics have enabled doctors to choose the ART regimen based on patient factors like resistance and gene mutations.

1. Increased Treatment Efficacy: 

By focusing on several phases of the HIV life cycle, antiretroviral medications lessen viral replication and delay the advancement of the illness. Better long-term outcomes derive from patients on contemporary ART regimens having reduced viral loads, increased CD4 cell counts, and enhanced immunological function.

2. Simplified Treatment Plans: 

Newer ART regimens with fewer tablets, lower dosage frequencies, and better tolerability have been developed. They are very convenient and easy to use. They also have a single-tablet regimen that combines the various antiretroviral medicines in a single tablet, eliminating the need for multiple doses, which improves the patient's medication adherence.

3. Reduced Side Effects: 

Compared to earlier treatments, newer antiretroviral therapies typically have fewer side effects. Patients can better tolerate ART and stick to their treatment plan over time by reducing medication toxicity and adverse effects.

4. Extended Effectiveness: 

A longer-lasting treatment minimizes treatment interruptions and preserves future treatment alternatives by lowering the need for regimen adjustments or revisions. Newer antiretroviral medications offer a longer durability that eliminates the need for changing the regimen due to resistance.
