1) There are 2 levels of formality

You can wear a 2-piece suit (coat and pants of the same color) or use a coat and pants of different colors.

Wear the complete suit without a tie when you have an important business appointment or an executive presentation in which you are the protagonist and you want to project leadership.

Wear a different color jacket and pants combination when your date or event is less formal. Remember that wearing a jacket helps you project a more professional image.

2) You must wear a long-sleeved dress shirt

A short-sleeved shirt is never considered acceptable in this dress code.

Yes, even if the weather is hot in professional environments it is better to wear a long-sleeved shirt. If it is your case to work in a hot area, you can roll up your shirt sleeves, you will feel cooler and more comfortable (and you will continue projecting a professional image).

If you want a cool and comfortable shirt, I suggest it be made of cotton fabric, which is ideal to wear in warm temperatures.

Important detail: Now that the shirt is more noticeable, it is the first item of clothing that must be your correct size. It should fit around your shoulders and be the ideal cut for your complexion:

  • Slim-fit (fitted) shirts if you are thin.
  • Regular cut shirts (semi-fitted) if your complexion is medium.
  • American or classic cut shirts (loose) if you are robust.

3) There are 2 types of pants that you can wear

Dress pants and gabardine pants. When to use each of them?

Use dress pants if your company is more conservative or formal, or when you have a meeting with clients, in corporate presentations and, above all, if you are a leader in your company.

I tell you. Dress pants with darts (those pleats next to the zipper or zipper) are no longer used, they are outdated and they will also make you look like you gained weight. Therefore, it is very important that you update the style of your dress pants.

What fabric should your dress pants be made of? Woolen. Now these pants exist with different thicknesses. In summer, he wears wool and cotton pants, which are cooler and thinner. In winter wear wool pants and they will help you cover yourself from the cold.

Gabardine pants (in Mexico known as "Docker's type") are ideal for dressing more relaxed and accessible, ideal for not feeling so formal. They are made of cotton fabric, very fresh. I highly recommend them on more relaxed days, for example "casual Fridays".

4) Jeans are not allowed

Yes I know. It's not fair, but it is. Jeans are not accepted under the business casual code. You may wonder, and why do we use them every Friday as a dress policy? It's the way companies agree to loosen up clothing for a more comfortable option.

If the company has a policy of wearing them on Fridays, you should know that the only jeans allowed are those in plain navy blue with no faded or ripped effect.

If your company wears jeans from Monday to Friday, then your dress code is not business casual but "Smart Casual" or "Elegant Casual". Widely used in technology companies, fashion, advertising.

5) Your dress belt is a key piece

Man who neglects the importance of the belt will lose presence immediately.

Because business casual attire can sometimes do without a jacket, it is for this reason that now the belt has more prominence, it is more visible than before.

Check your current belt. If it is old, broken and cracked, replace it with a new one immediately. It's truly amazing how many men I meet with this sloppiness, thinking it doesn't matter. Quite the opposite.

What rules regarding the belt should you know?

  • That the belt for dress pants is leather and thin.
  • When you wear gabardine pants, use braided or leather belts
  • When you wear jeans, use a thick leather belt.
  • Always in professional environments your belt should be the same color as your shoes.

6) Your shoes can be loafers or lace-ups

In your shoes is 50% of your professionalism. A man who neglects the presentation of his shoes (dirty, worn, torn) immediately loses all the points he has earned in the previous points.

When you wear a suit without a tie, wear loafers and you will look very good. I recommend they are thin soles, since they project more leadership and authority.

Did you know that you can also wear lace-up shoes without a tie? That's how it is. And in fact I recommend it every time you want to reflect greater leadership.

7) The scarf gives you distinction and leadership

The tie went away and the handkerchief returned triumphantly. This accessory will completely transform your professional outfit. More and more men lose their fear of using it because they see that it really makes a difference.

I suggest you wear your scarf with a casual fit. If you are going to buy your first scarf, I suggest it be plain white, as it will match any outfit. Wear it to the next executive meeting or appointment with formal-wearing clients. You will look great!
