What are bolts?

Bolts are commonly used fasteners to hold or position materials or objects together. They are primarily used in conjunction with nuts. The best bolt suppliers have various bolts for various industrial verticals.

In other words, bolts are mechanical fasteners with threaded shafts. They are tools used to fasten and secure the faces of assemblies using a nut.

What are the different types of bolts?

Bolts, as well as screws, are used in a wide variety of head shapes. The heads are made to hold the tools that are used to tighten them. The most common bolt head types are square hex, slotted hex washer and socket cap.

  1. Anchor boltsare used to join structural and non-structural elements to concrete. The connection can be made using various components- anchor bolts, steel plates, or stiffeners.
  2. Arbor bolts: Arbor bolts are designed for use with power tools and hold the device securely and keep the blade in place. They are very distinctive in appearance. They have a head with a hollow design that creates a noticeable ridge around the head of the bolt.
  3. Blind bolts: A blind bolt is a structural fastener that provides more strength and conformability than a typical weld or rivet. They are designed to forge a strong connection where traditional rivets or hex bolts were tough to assemble. For many years they have been the first choice for restricted access work sectors like construction, manufacturing and repair work.
  4. Carriage bolts form the boltused to join metal to metal, or more commonly, wood to metal. It is widely used on bare wood, with the square section providing enough grip to prevent rotation. It differs from other bolts because of its flat mushroom head.
  5. Elevator boltsare threaded fasteners with a thin body and round head. They can have a square or ribbed neck to prevent the bolts from turning when the nut is tightened. They are used in tight spaces with moving parts, like elevators and conveyor belts.
  6. Eye bolts: They are mechanical fasteners with a threaded shaft and head forming a ring. They are used to attach an eye to a structure via rope, cable or shackles.
  7. Flange bolts: They are bolts with circular flanges under the head and act like a washer to distribute the load. They are used in automotive applications, plumbing and more.
  8. Hex bolts: Hex bolts feature a hexagonal head that is used when tightening the fastener. They are commonly used in construction, machine parts and maintenance repairs. The best bolt suppliers manufacture hex bolts in various sizes, finishes, quality and materials depending on the application.
  9. T-head bolts: T-head bolts are used mainly with nuts to join an object with a T-shaped slot so that the head of the bolt sits flush or below the material surrounding it. They are commonly used in many applications, including machine tools, clamping fixtures and pipe clamps.
