Climbing Yala Peak is a terrific journey via Nepal’s breathtaking sceneries. The entire trek normally takes roughly 12 days. Here’s a summary of the itinerary, as well as some personal comments, to help you get a sense of the trip.

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Day 2: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi
The next day, you’ll travel a great distance to Syabrubesi, which is around 7 hours away and sits at 1550 meters. The drive is an adventure in and of itself, with twisting roads and stunning vistas of the mountains and valleys.
Day 3: Trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel
The actual trek begins on day three. To reach the Lama Hotel, which is located at an elevation of 2380 meters, you will need to climb for around 6 hours. The walk winds through lush forests and along the Langtang River, with the sounds of rushing water and chirping birds accompanying you.
Day 4: Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang Village
On this day, you will hike to Langtang Village, which is located at 3430 meters. The hike lasts about 6–7 hours, and as you ascend higher, the terrain changes, with more mountain views and fewer trees. Langtang Village is a wonderful spot where you may mingle with the friendly residents.
Day 5: Trek from Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa
The next stop is Kyanjin Gompa, at 3870 meters, which takes approximately 3–4 hours to reach. The walk is relatively easy, and you’ll arrive in time to visit the monastery and explore the surrounding area. This location exudes serenity and provides breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.
Day 6: Rest and Acclimatization at Kyanjin Gompa
Day six is a rest day to help you adjust to the higher altitude. You can go on short hikes in the region or simply relax and enjoy the scenery. This day is critical for allowing your body to adjust and prepare for the greater elevations ahead.
Day 7: Trek from Kyanjin Gompa to Yala Base Camp
You will trek to Yala Base Camp, which is located at 4600 meters. The hike lasts about 5–6 hours and provides spectacular views of the Alps. Reaching the base camp feels like a huge accomplishment as you get closer to the top.
Day 8: Summit Yala Peak and Return to Yala Base Camp
This is the big day! You’ll start early, around 2–3 am, to reach the summit of Yala Peak at 5500 meters. The climb takes about 8–9 hours. Standing at the top, with the world below you and the sun rising, is an indescribable feeling. After celebrating your achievement, you’ll head back down to the base camp.
Day 9: Trek from Yala Base Camp to Langtang Village
After the excitement of the summit, you’ll start your descent. The trek back to Langtang Village takes around 6–7 hours. Retracing your steps gives you a chance to see the landscapes from a different perspective.
Day 10: Trek from Langtang Village to Syabrubesi
The next day, you’ll continue descending, trekking for about 7 hours to return to Syabrubesi. It’s a long day, but the sense of accomplishment carries you through.
Day 11: Drive from Syabrubesi to Kathmandu
You’ll drive back to Kathmandu, which takes about 7 hours. The journey feels different now, with the mountains you’ve climbed still fresh in your mind.
Day 12: Final Departure
Finally, it’s time to go home. You’ll depart Kathmandu with unforgettable experiences and a sense of accomplishment. Climbing Yala Peak is an experience that will stay with you long after you return home.
From my own perspective, the road was difficult but extremely gratifying. The sense of kinship with other trekkers, the warmth of the locals, and the sheer magnificence of the Himalayas made every step worthwhile.
