IELTS
You can choose IELTS as the test to prove your proficiency in the English Language for various Australia Visas like Skilled Subclass Visa, Student Visa, and Work Visa. If you are applying for a Study Visa you will have to appear for the IELTS – Academic Test.
If you are applying for a Skilled Subclass Visa or Work Visa you will have to appear for the IELTS –General Test. IELTS assesses test takers through 4 language competencies: Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening. Then scores are allocated from 0 to 9 for each competency based on the performance of the candidates. A score of 6 band overall represents proficiency at the ‘Competent’ level while a score of 9 band overall represents proficiency at the ‘Expert’ level.
TOEFL – IBT
A Test for Academic Proficiency in English, TOEFL-IBT aims to recreate the manner of usage of English in a true academic ambiance. Each competency in the language is allocated a maximum score of 30 and overall 120 points are available.
For instance, a score in the range of 23 to 18 in the Reading skill denotes proficiency at the ‘High-intermediate’ level.
PTE Academic
A Test for Academic Proficiency in English, PTE Academic utilizes automated score allocation instead of the score allocation method utilized for certain sections of TOEFL – IBT and IELTS. You can appear for the PTE Academic test in one solo session of 120 minutes at a PTE Test Centre.
You will receive individual scores for the 4 language competencies and one overall score. The score range for overall and individual competencies ranges from 90 to 10.
OET
An industry-specific test for assessing language proficiency in English, the Occupational English Test is for healthcare professionals seeking to study or work in Australia. OET evaluates the communication and language skills through 4 language competencies. Each competency is offered a score in the range from 500 to 0 inclusive of a letter grade from E to A.
CAE
One of the tests for assessing English language proficiency, the Cambridge English Advanced test is used for demonstrating proficiency in the English language for work, study, or immigration purposes. Apart from the 4 language competencies, it also has an extra component known as “Application of English”. This is included in the test’s Reading component.
“Application of English” evaluates the fundamental knowledge of the candidates in grammar and lexicon. The individual competencies in language will be offered a numerical score along with an overall score and grading in letters – Level B2, B, C, and A.
